Wichita State vs. UMBC
Wichita State Head Coach Gregg Marshall
“We seem to run into a lot of guys that can shoot. UMBC was a big time shooting team. They had a couple guys that could shoot it from other area codes and make it.”
“You have to give them credit. We made the plays that we had to make and we were very balanced scoring. We out rebounded them by 10 so I consider that a good effort against a good team.”
“UMBC is a team that, if they stay healthy, they have a shot to play in post-season.”
“JT (Durley) can score. He had 17 points in 19 minutes. He continues to do it on the offensive end and he's getting better. He's vital to what we're doing right now.”
“I was fearful of this game and glad that we won.”
UMBC Head Coach Randy Monroe:
“I thought that the young men from Wichita State did a tremendous job in the first half. They probably got about 13 or 14 points in transition. At one point I was going to go out there and be a sixth man for my team and see if we could stop Wichita State from scoring some easy transition baskets.”
“I think we have some talent but I think our biggest problem right now is giving up transition points.”
“Wichita State also did a tremendous job on the backboards, getting some second chance shots and things like that.”
“You can't wait until you get down in a hole against a good team like Wichita State and then try to claw your way back because good teams aren't going to allow that to happen.”
Wichita State's Matt Braeuer
“We knew they were going to throw a good zone and a good press at us and a little zone and we were ready for it. We made some adjustments at shootaround today and it helped us out.”
“It's funny. Last year it seemed like I was guarding everybody's worst player and it seems like now every team we play has a good little guard that's about my size, but I know I can defend people with my quickness.”
Wichita State's P.J. Couisnard
“Anytime you get out and run, it's fun. We're good when we run. That's a strength of ours that we like to try to use.”
“This was a good win for us. I think we were getting tired of hearing how good they were from coach all week. We all just wanted to come out and beat them so we could stop having to listen to him talk about them.”
Wichita State's J.T. Durley
“I'm pretty comfortable at the free throw line. We shoot free throws all the time in practice and we have to make a certain number. I feel comfortable there.”
