Shockers Ranked Nationally

WICHITA, Kan.-  The Wichita State men's tennis team have one singles and doubles team ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 100 singles and top 50 doubles teams in the country.

Seniors Goran Vujaklija and Boris Gubic are No. 14 in the rankings after posting eight wins this fall.  Four of their wins were over nationally ranked opponents, including defeating the No. 24 doubles team Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman of Louisville.

"This is a great accomplishment for our two seniors," Director of Tennis Chris Young said.  "Boris and Goran had a great fall that included winning the Baylor tournament.

"I know they believe that they can continue to move up and with the competition we will play this season, they will get their chances if they are prepared," said Young.

Vujaklija is ranked No. 88 in singles play.  The senior had three wins over players in the top 100 this fall and one of his three losses was to Stephen Moneke of Ohio State who is No. 1 in the ITA poll.

"I am proud of Goran for achieving this honor to begin his senior year," Young said. "Goran set a goal this season to be nationally ranked in both singles and doubles and he has achieved that. I hope that this ranking will inspire him to work hard this spring and take advantage of the opportunities he will have to be ranked even higher."

This is the second year in a row that WSU has been invited to the ITA Regional Team Playoff in Tulsa, Okla.  The event takes place on January 20-21 and the winner will represent the central region at the ITA National Indoor Championships in February.
