Osburn and Brown Named to All-America Team

Seniors Jackie Brown and Desiraye Osburn ended their Shocker careers in a sweet way on June 8 and 9 in Sacramento, Calif. Both placed in the top eight in their respected events to earn All-America status and with that, both earned spots on the Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-America team, announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association today.

Brown, an Overland Park, Kan., native placed third in the pole vault competition to earn her first All-America title. Brown vaulted 13-7 1/4, a new personal best as well as a Wichita State and Missouri Valley Conference record.

Osburn, from Lyndon, Kan., captured her fourth All-America title in the 5,000-meter race, placing fourth in the event in a time of 16:10.76. Osburn became the first woman track and field athlete to earn four-consecutive All-America honors.

Eighty-six Division I schools are represented on the women's All-America team.

In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including relays, are accorded All-America status. In the individual (non-relay) events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
