SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Kiki Stephens scored all 18 of her points in the second half and in overtime but it wasn't enough for the Shockers as Shanna Demus' layin as time expired sank Wichita State, 72-71, in overtime, Sunday afternoon at Cox Arena.

Stephens led the Shockers with 19 points, while Lexee McDonnell poured in 14 and Jacie Hoyt posted a career-high 10 points in the losing effort. Antionette Wells led all players with 15 rebounds, while Taylor Steven chipped in a season-high five assists.

Lauren Hoisington led the Aztecs with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Quenese Davis (11 points), Kate Eveland (12 points), and Desiree Johnson who chipped in 10.

Wichita State went up by eight with 9:44 to go in the first half on a Daria Frazier jumper.  San Diego answered with an 8-0 run and continued into halftime leading 34-28.

Wichita State battled back and tied the ballgame up with 11:10 to go in the second half.  Both teams went back and forth until the Shockers got the lead with 5:13 to go.  Wichita State led by as many as six until the Aztecs tied up the ballgame with 38 seconds remaining with a Hoisington lay-up, forcing overtime.

The Shockers led by as many as five in the overtime, and two free throws by Hoyt gave WSU a one-point lead with seven seconds remaining, but the Aztecs shot at the buzzer was good to put them ahead, 74-73.

Wichita State starts a long home stretch on Wednesday, Dec. 6, taking on Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. in Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers play their next seven games at home throughout the month of December.
