Biography

Preferred walk-on was a three-sport standout at Wichita's Kapaun Mt. Carmel but will focus exclusively on hoops for the first time at WSU... Deadly shooter… One of the five best basketball players in the state of Kansas as a senior in 2021-22, per both the Wichita Eagle and KSHSAA Covered... Last name pronounced “THING-vawl”.

2024-25 (Redshirt Sophomore):
American Conference All-Academic Team... Named to the Fall and Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Appeared in four games, scoring two points in 9 minutes.

2023-24 (Redshirt Freshman):
American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team... Named to the Fall and Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Appeared in seven games, totaling two points, three rebounds, an assist and a block in 17 minutes... In two minutes of action vs. UTSA (Feb. 7), he dished out an assist, blocked a shot and grabbed a rebound... Made his collegiate debut vs. Lipscomb on Nov. 6 and scored his first career points.

2022-23 (Freshman):
Named to the Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Opted for a redshirt year while acclimating to Division I basketball... Qualified for the Fall 2022 Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0+ semester GPA).

High School:
Wichita Eagle Top-5 selection (first team all-state, all classes)… Consensus first team All-Class 5A… First Team All-City League… Was one of the state’s most-improved seniors in 2022, averaging 20.1 points (up from 7.9 as a junior) along with 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 steals… Led Kapaun-Mt. Carmel to a 21-2 record (16-0 in City League play) and the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A state tournament… Shot 45 percent from deep and 84 percent at the foul line…  Coached by Steve Eck… Also played football and was a three-time state medalist in track and field… Took third in the 800-meter run as a junior… As a senior placed third in the 1600-meters and fifth in the 800… A member of Kapaun’s National Honor Society and Cum Laude honors program… Player of the Year at the El Dorado Bluestem Classic.

Born June 19… Son of Andrew and Emily Thengvall… Has a sister, Ellie, and two brothers, William and Nathan… Plans to major in finance at WSU... Serves on WSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
