Shocker Women's Tennis History

Historical Notes: 

• Wichita State has sponsored women's tennis since 1974. Over the years, the Shockers have competed in the Gateway Athletic Conference (1982-92), the Missouri Valley Conference (1992-2017) and now the American Athletic Conference (2017-Pr.)

• Shockers teams have appeared in 12 NCAA Tournaments (2006, '07, '09-18), including 10-straight from 2009-18. The 2007 and 2018 teams both advanced to the second round.

• WSU has won 19 conference tournament titles in 48 seasons (1982, 84, 86, 88, 94, 95, 97, 98, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17).

 • WSU won 12 MVC regular season titles over a stretch of 21 years from 1997-2017 ( 1997, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17).

 • The Shockers swept the MVC regular season and tournament titles in nine-straight seasons from 2009-17. During that span, they won 89-consecutive dual matches against conference foes.

• Colin Foster is the winningest coach in WSU history, with a 238-140 dual match record heading into the 2023-24 season.

• Women's tennis representatives in the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame include Sandy Sadler (1981-85) and Lutfiana Budiharto (2008-12).

• Sadler is the school's career singles wins leader, compiling a 112-55 record from 1981-85.

• Jill Braendle holds the career doubles wins mark with a 119-36 record from 1982-86.

• Sadler and Braendle are the most-successful doubles tandem in Shocker history with 85 victories. They won a school-record 35 matches together in the 1983-84 season.

• Guilia Guidetti set the Shockers' single-season wins record, going 38-5 during the 2015-16 season.
