Shockers’ Run at All-Americans Ends in Qualifiers

TULSA, Okla. – Wichita State men's tennis duo Alejandro Jacome and Kristof Minarik's run at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships ended in the opening round of qualifiers on Monday evening at Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The eliminating defeat came in straight sets to Florida State duo Erik Schiessl and Joshua Dous Karpenschif, 6-3, 6-2.

The Shocker duo reached the qualifying round after back-to-back upset wins over the weekend, first over Texas A&M pairing Ritesh Patil and Matthis Ross, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 1-0 (10) on Saturday, and then a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ohio State's William Jansen and Christopher Li on Sunday.

The Shocker juniors became the first Shockers to compete in the qualifying round since David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira in 2011. Cavalcanti and Pereira were also the last Shockers to win multiple matches at All-Americans, where they won six matches, on route to a quarterfinals appearance, falling to the eventual champion duo from Ohio State.

Fall action for the Shockers continues on October 11, when a group of Shockers travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to open play in the Oklahoma State Invite at Greenwood Tennis Center.
