WICHITA, Kan. – CC Wong hit three of Wichita State's seven home runs and Wichita State completed the series sweep over UTSA on Saturday with a 12-0 win in five innings.
Wichita State (16-10, 7-2) ran its winning streak to six in a row with its second straight series sweep. Two players had multiple home runs on the day and the seven total tied for the third most in a single game in school history.
The day belonged to Wong. She tied the school record with her three home runs and drove in six runs. After a pair of solo homers started the day, Wong crushed a grand slam in her final at bat.
Bailey Urban recorded her first career multi-home run, going 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBI.
Addison Barnard had a pair of hits, including a home run and two runs scored.
Caroline Tallent smashed her second home run of the season to complete the seven-home run game.
Lauren Howell (3-1) was superb in her second straight start. She tossed a complete game shutout behind a career-high nine strikeouts, while allowing only one hit and two walks.
Wichita State jumped on the Roadrunners in the bottom of the first with back-to-back home runs from Wong and Barnard to start the frame.
A solo shot down the left field line from Tallent made it 3-0 after two innings.
Wong's second home run and Urban's first of the day gave the Shockers a 5-0 lead in the third.
In the bottom of the fourth the floodgates opened. An RBI single from
Sophie Johnson kickstarted a seven-run inning. With the bases loaded, Wong sent her third bomb of the game over the wall in right-center to make it 10-0. After a Barnard single, Urban promptly made it 12-0 on her second of the day.
Howell would retire the Roadrunners in the top of the fifth behind three strikeouts. She struck out the side twice on the day.
