TEMPE, Ariz. – A trio of Shockers broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles and doubles rankings that were unveiled on Tuesday afternoon by the ITA.
Wichita State sophomore
Xin Tong Wang was ranked No. 61 in the singles top 125 and the pair of
Theodora Chantava and
Giorgia Roselli were ranked No. 91 in the doubles poll.
Head Coach
Colin Foster is happy to see the hard work of his group being recognized for their efforts.
"I'm super proud of not just these three girls, but the whole team for pushing hard in practice and competing hard in every match this fall," said Foster. "They made each other stronger and now we can continue pushing to accomplish team goals that we have set for this season."
Wang is the first Shocker to be ranked in the singles poll since Fatima Bizhukova, who was ranked No. 121 in the May 1
st poll in 2019. Chantava and Roselli are the first Shocker doubles team to be ranked since January 13, 2021, when Marta Bellucco and Sandra Honigova were ranked No. 23.
Wang went 9-3 in singles in the fall season, ending with a debut at the NCAA Singles Championships in Waco, Texas. She finished as ITA Central Region Singles Runner-Up, the first Shocker to play in the region title match since 1983.
Chantava and Roselli's fall was highlighted by collecting two wins at the AAC Individual Championships in October and pushing the top seed in the tournament to a super tiebreaker in the doubles semifinal round.
The Shockers will look to continue to add to the Shocker history books when the spring season begins in January.
