WICHITA, Kan. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Wichita State first-year student-athlete
Alejandro Jacome as the 2023 Central Region Rookie of the Year on Friday, marking the second-straight year a Wichita State player has earned the honor.

The Quito, Ecuador native ended his first collegiate season with a team-best 16-6 singles record after joining the team in January and went 6-8 in doubles.

After opening his career with four-straight singles victories, Jacome clinched two 4-3 wins for the Shockers over Denver and Nebraska and gave the Shockers a win at No. 4 singles in the team's victory over No. 55-ranked SMU.

His best performances came in singles wins over opponents Illinois, Tulane, UCF, Drake and Arizona State, including a win over the Knights' No. 84-ranked Liam Branger.

Sophomore
Kristof Minarik, the 2022 Central Region Rookie of the Year, ended the season with a No. 20 singles ranking in the Central Region and claimed the No. 8 spot in the doubles rankings with partner
Alex Richards.

The Shockers came in at No. 7 in the final ITA Central Region Team Rankings with Oklahoma claiming the top spot.
