Belmont's Tess Miller and Jailyn Banks put up 17 points apiece to lead the Bruins to their second-straight win.

After a back-and-forth start to the game, Belmont (2-1) went on an 8-0 run to go up 16-9 before Abies helped bring the Shockers (1-2) back within four.

Abies shot 100% (4-for-4) from the field in the first half, making an immediate impact after entering the game with three minutes left in the first quarter.

The Shockers had difficulty protecting the paint in the first half as the Bruins scored 24 points in the paint, going 10-for-13 with layups and shooting 51.7% overall from the field.

The Shockers gained momentum to start the second half and cut the Bruins' lead to two points three different times but never regained the lead.

McCarty left the game with an injury late in the third quarter but reentered with 8:17 left in the game and scored back-to-back jumpers to give Wichita State a bit of a spark, but Belmont did not let up.

Fouls hurt the Shockers' as Belmont shot 24 free throws compared to Wichita State's eight, and the Bruins capitalized on those opportunities, shooting 20-for-24 from the line (83.3%).

Wichita State won the turnover battle for the third-straight game, forcing 21, committing 14, and scoring 23 points off turnovers.

The Bruins shot 46% from the field with the Shockers shooting 40%.

Wichita State scored 17 second-chance points off 12 offense rebounds with five of those offensive rebounds coming from Abies as she led the team in rebounding for the second time this season.

Freshman Salese Blow got her first collegiate start and tallied 8 points and 2 steals.

The Shockers return home to play Omaha Monday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Charles Koch Arena.
