Genereux, Montgomery Earn High Point Award at Triangular

TOPEKA, Kan. – Joakim Genereux and Jaleel Montgomery put up 12 points apiece for the Shockers in the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, tying Kansas's TJ Robinson for the men's High Point Award. Wichita State men and women combined for 198 points, just six points behind Kansas State, while Kansas won its first Triangular since 2019 with 268 points.
 
Genereux and Montgomery led the Shockers on the track with strong season-opening times, claiming the top two spots in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. Genereux won the 200 meters in 21.55 with Montgomery behind him in 21.94, while Montgomery took the crown in the with a personal-best time of 6.84 that moved him up the Wichita State all-time list into the No. 6 spot.
 
Joseph Holthusen completed the Shocker sweep of the short sprints in his return to the track after redshirting the outdoor season last spring, winning the 60-meter hurdles in a quick 8.03.
 
Making her Shocker track and field debut, Farrah Miller earned the sole running event victory for the women, running the second-fastest 600-yard race in school history in 1:24.84.
 
Also making a splash in his Shocker debut, Adrian Diaz-Lopex ran away with the 3,000-meter race, setting a new meet record of 8:15.27.
 
Chidera Okoro also claimed a win for the team, earning seven points in the long jump with an indoor personal-best leap of 5.73m/18'9.75". Zarrey Sams and Faith Turner completed the Shocker long jump sweep, placing second and third.
 
In the 60 meters, Turner and Savannah Simmons went 2-3 with strong season-opening times of 7.47 and 7.82, respectively.
 
Although Destiny Masters pulled out of the high jump before taking her final attempt, she still came away with a second-place finish after clearing 1.75m/5'8.75" and went on to collect another silver in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.58, just 0.05 off her personal best.
 
Brady Palen and Weston Lewis both cleared 2.10m/6'10.75" in the high jump to place second and third.
