LINCOLN, Neb. – A young Wichita State women's cross country team, racing without its top two runners, recorded eight personal bests to finish eighth out of 29 teams at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.

With
Abeba Sullivan and
Sarah Bertry resting up for next weekend's race in Minneapolis, Minn.,
Miranda Dick led the way for the Shocker women, placing in the top 30 with a 5K personal-best time of 18:27.8.

"Miranda really stepped it up," head coach
Kirk Hunter said. "She got out just about perfectly and just kept moving up as the race went on. I thought she looked terrific."

Dick came through the 3K mark in 34
th place and kept moving up through the final 2,000 meters to finish in 28
th place out of 310 athletes.

"I think she's going to be even better over the 6K distance than the 5K distance, but she did a great job leading our team today," Hunter said.

Finishing 46
th and 49
th, respectively,
Lubna Aldulaimi (18:50.0) and
Jenna Muma (18:51.3) showed their reliability as scorers for the Shockers, coming through the line ahead of the 19-minute barrier.

"Not having [our top two from the JK Gold Classic] was obviously a huge hit for our team," Hunter said. "The other girls all had to step up, and we had a few that got in there and did some really good racing for us that helped us finish in a decent place."

After racing unattached at the season-opener, freshman
Amanda Treptow made some noise in her Shocker debut as the fourth-fastest Wichita State athlete to cross the line.

"Amanda came in and is just really a strong girl that works hard, and you can tell that she's into this," Hunter said. "Just watching her at practice and then watching her run unattached at JK Gold a couple weeks ago, we thought she needed to be in uniform."

Treptow cut 30 seconds off her time from two weeks ago to finish 60
th with a time of 19:03.2 (PB).

"She's going to be valuable, and today she proved it," Hunter said. "She had a really good race, so I think that she's going to be a major part of any success we have as we go through the future."

Lea Brueckner rounded out the scorers with her 70
th-place finish (19:14.8; PB), and
Lea Jerkovic finished not far behind in 72
nd (19:16.5; PB).

Both the Shocker men and women will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 23 for the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
