WICHITA, Kan. - Sophomore
Addison Barnard etched her name on one more All-America team Tuesday morning after being named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-American®.
The Beatrice, Neb., native becomes just the fifth Shocker to earn Academic All-America honors and only the third to make the first team. She is the first Academic All-American for Wichita State since Emily Peters in 1998.
Barnard was named to the CoSIDA First Team All-District® last month, qualifying her for a spot on one of the three All-America teams. The 2022 American Player of the Year is majoring in health science and has a 3.73 cumulative GPA. She has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester, while also earning American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors.
Barnard had a historic season on the field for Wichita State. She finished the season with 33 home runs, 84 RBI, 25 stolen bases and a .391 average. Barnard's 33 home runs are the third-most in NCAA history. She became the first player in NCAA history to post a 30/25 season of 30+ home runs and 25+ stolen bases. Her 0.63 home runs per game set a new NCAA single season record, besting the previous record of 0.60 by Camilla Carrera of UTEP in 2012. Barnard owns Wichita State single season records in home runs, RBI, total bases, stolen bases (tie) and slugging percentage.
