6/23/2022 2:00:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State head women's basketball coach Keitha Adams announced the addition of Jeniah Thompson Thursday afternoon.

"We're excited to announce our last signee for this upcoming season," Adams said. "Jeniah Thompson was the second-leading scorer in the nation at the JUCO level. Jeniah has the ability to score in multiple ways and has great versatility. We're thrilled to add her to our team for this upcoming season."

Thompson is a 5-foot-9 guard from Carterville, Ill., and recently completed her freshman season at John A. Logan College. One of junior college's elite scorers, Thompson put up 23.2 points per game to go with 11.9 rebounds on 47.2 percent shooting. She earned NJCAA Third Team All-American honors in 2021-22. Thompson reached double figures in every game but one, including six 30-point outings. She dropped a season-high 38 points on Mineral Area College on Nov. 23, 2021. A double-double machine, Thompson registered a double-double in all but five games. She even posted a 20-20 game of 22 points and 20 rebounds on Dec. 11 vs. Vincennes University. A dynamic athlete, Thompson nearly averaged a triple-double in high school, helping the Carterville Lions go 28-4 and win its seventh-straight regional title in 2019. She averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and nine assists during a junior season in which she earned All-State honors and was named The Southern Illinoisan's Girls Basketball Player of the Year. A three-time all-conference selection, Thompson scored her 1,000th career point during her junior season.
