WICHITA, Kan. - For the second straight week and third time this season
Addison Barnard has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week.
Barnard and Oklahoma's Jocelyn Alo are the only players to earn National Player of the Week honors three times this season.
D1 Softball also named Barnard its Player of the Week on Tuesday, making it the third time the sophomore has earned the top weekly honor from D1 Softball. The American Athletic Conference named the Beatrice, Neb., native its Player of the Week for a fourth time this season on Monday.
In three games at East Carolina, Barnard was 6-for-10 at the plate with two doubles, four home runs, six runs scored and eight RBI. In the opening game of the series she tied the school record with three home runs, while driving in seven runs - tied for the second most in school history. Barnard is currently riding an 11-game hit streak, which included a six-game home run streak that tied for the second longest in NCAA history, before coming to an end in the middle game of the series vs. the Pirates.
During her home run parade in Greenville, Barnard belted her 30th home run of the season, becoming just the 14th player in NCAA history to hit 30 home runs in a season. It is tied for the seventh-most in NCAA history for a single season. Her current pace of 0.68 home runs per game in 2022 is the best in NCAA history. In 96 career games Barnard has hit 52 home runs.
Barnard currently has eight more home runs and 13 more RBI than the next closest players in the country.
Wichita State closes out the regular season this weekend with a conference title on the line when the league-leading UCF Knights come to Wilkins Stadium for a three-game series, May 6-8. The Knights are just one game ahead of the Shockers for first place.
