WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State's
Brock Polhill was named American Men's Golf Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
It's the first such award for Polhill and the third of the season for the Shockers, after
Dawson Lewis and
Lucas Scheufler shared the honor on March 23.
Polhill finished second at the MU Tiger Invitational on Tuesday, the best performance of his career. He helped the Shockers to a runner-up team finish at The Club at Old Hawthorne, their best outing of the 2022 season. Polhill (67-68-69—204) ended the tournament just one stroke back of Missouri's Jack Parker, who held on for the win with a par on 18 while Polhill carded a five. It was one of just three bogeys on the round for Polhill, who racked up 19 birdies over the course of 54 holes, the second-highest total in the 90-player field.
The junior from Edmond, Okla., also eagled the par-five 10th on Monday's opening 18, leading to a 67 for the round that nearly matched his career-best 66 in Columbia a year ago. Polhill utilized his length off the tee to record the second best average score on Par 5s (4.33) ending the invitational at 8-under on Par-5s.
It was the third top-five finish of Polhill's career, besting a pair of fifth place results from the Wildcat Invitational (9/14/2021) and MU Tiger Invitational (4/6/2021).
Polhill and the Shockers now head to The American Championship in Brooksville, Florida. Play begins on Friday, April 22 at Southern Hills Golf Club.
