WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State heads to Tulsa to face the Golden Hurricane for the final road contest of the regular season on Sunday.

Sunday's game can be heard on the radio at KNSS 98.7 FM/1330 AMÂ with Steve Strain calling the action. Strain is in his eighth season as the radio voice for Wichita State women's basketball. The game will also be televised on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State dropped its sixth straight game in the series with South Florida in a heartbreaking one point loss in Charles Koch Arena, 47-46. South Florida won on a last second shooting foul after the game was tied 46-46. Wichita State scored just two points in the third quarter after holding a 30-19 halftime lead. The two points were a season low for any quarter. Wichita State led by as many as 13 in the game, tying for the biggest lead surrendered this season.
Mariah McCully and
Asia Strong combined to score 35 of Wichita State's 46 points. No other Shocker had more than four points in the game. McCully poured in a game-high 20 points, marking her third straight game with 20 or more. Strong added 15 points and six rebounds.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Under first-year head coach Angie Nelp, Tulsa has been the surprise story in the American this season. The Hurricane are 14-8 overall after winning their first 10 games of the season. Tulsa has a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging double figures. Wyvette Mayberry and Maya Mayberry lead the team in scoring at 13.7 and 12.9 points per game, respectively. The sisters are also lethal from three-point range, as they both shoot better than 39 percent. Temira Poindexter ranks second in the league in blocked shots per game to go with 11.5 points. Rebecca Lescay adds 10.0 points, while dishing out 82 assists. As a team Tulsa leads the AAC in 3FGM, 3-point percentage, FG Percentage and FT Percentage.
THE SERIES VS. TULSA
Wichita State and Tulsa have met 26 times, dating all the way back to the first meeting on March 2, 1978. The Shockers have dominated the all-time series, winning 21 of the 26 meetings. Wichita State enters the matchup having won four of the last five meetings and is 10-2 all-time vs. the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa.
LAST MEETING
The two teams met earlier this month in Wichita with Tulsa coming away with a 65-58 win on Feb. 6. Wichita State outscored Tulsa 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 30-22 lead into halftime, but Tulsa would return the favor by winning the second half, 43-28. Tulsa knocked down 10 three-pointers on 39 attempts -a season-high for an opponent, while Wichita State was just 4-of-19 from beyond the arc. Wichita State also finished with a season-low three steals.
Asia Strong scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Trajata Colbert added 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Jane Asinde grabbed 11 rebounds.

Mariah McCully has been pest on defense for opposing offenses through 26 games this season. McCully had her streak of 14 straight games with a steal snapped vs. UCF, but has swiped at least one in 23 of the 26 games she's played. She's had multiple in 16 of the 26. Her 51 steals easily lead the team and rank fifth in the American Athletic Conference. Her 1.96 steals per game rank sixth in the conference. During her first season at Wichita State (2019-20), McCully had a career-long 19-game streak with a steal, including a career-high seven at Tulane on Feb. 16, 2020.

Wichita State is ranked in the top 100 nationally in 11 categories after the first 27 games. The Shockers rank No. 15 in offensive rebounds per game (15.4), No. 16 in total rebounds (1,138), No. 20 in rebounds per game (42.15), No. 48 in free throw percentage (75.4 percent), No. 71 in in three-point field goal defense (28.6), No. 71 in blocked shots (105), No. 73 in steals (240), No. 74 in rebound margin (4.3), No. 75 in field goal defense (37.5), No. 87 in blocked shots per game (3.9) and No. 89 in steals per game (8.9).
GLASS CLEANERS
Wichita State is off to an impressive start rebounding the basketball through its first 27 games. The Shockers have outrebounded all but nine teams and currently average 42.1 rebounds a game, which ranks 20th nationally. Their 1138 total rebounds rank 16th in the NCAA. Wichita State ranks 15th in offensive rebounds per game and 74th in rebound margin. As it stands now, Four different Shockers pull down at least 5.4 boards per game, led by
Jane Asinde at 8.6.
DYNAMIC POINT GUARD
• Wichita State point guard
Seraphine Bastin had her best season in a Shocker uniform in 2020-21. Bastin averaged 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals a game, while shooting 78.7 percent from the free throw line. The 5-foot-8 guard led the team in rebounding, assists, steals and double-doubles. In The American, Bastin ranked second in free throw percentage, third in assists, fourth in rebounding and fifth in assist-turnover ratio.
• She is off to another great start on the glass in 2021-22. Her 6.9 rebounds rank second on the team, and she's already had five games with 10 boards. In all but four games she's had five or more rebounds. Her season low is two.
• Bastin entered the Wichita State top 10 list for career assists on Nov. 26 vs. Alcorn State. She passed Allison Daniel who held the No. 10 spot with 308 career dimes. She has since moved into sole possession of 6th. Bastin is already in the top 10 for career assists per game at 3.8. Her 3.8 helpers rank ninth best in school history.
• The Dinant, Belgium, native has a bulldog mentality and that is evident in her rebounding. Bastin led Wichita State and ranked sixth in the American Athletic Conference in rebounding at 7.7 per game and 131 total rebounds in 2020-21. Her 131 rebounds were 15 more than the next closest Shocker, which was
Trajata Colbert with 116. Bastin has been one of the program's best rebounders since she arrived in 2018. She has 581 career rebounds, far and away the team's active leader. She has averaged 4.6 rebounds or more every season, including her career best 7.7 in 2020-21.
