WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State makes a stop in Memphis to take on the Tigers during its three-game road trip on Saturday.

Saturday's game can be heard on the radio at KNSS 98.7 FM/1330 AMÂ with Steve Strain calling the action. Strain is in his eighth season as the radio voice for Wichita State women's basketball. The game will also be televised on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State dropped to 3-8 in conference play following a 60-35 loss at league-leading UCF Wednesday night in Orlando. Wichita State led by two at halftime, but was outscored 43-16 in the second half (21-6 in the third quarter). Wichita State was held to a season-low 35 points, while committing a season-high 31 turnovers. The Shockers attempted only 36 field goals (season low) and were held to a season-low 20 rebounds, while getting outrebounded by 10. Defensively, Wichita State forced UCF into 24 turnovers and held the Knights to just five points in the second quarter - the second fewest UCF had scored in any quarter this season.
Asia Strong was the lone Shocker to reach double figures. No other Shocker scored more than five points. Strong has reached double figures in four straight games.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis enters the matchup at 14-9 overall and 5-7 in league play under first-year head coach Katrina Merriweather. Jamirah Shutes is the lone Tiger averaging double figures at 11.6 points per game. Emani Jefferson leads Memphis in assists (55) and steals (34) to go with 9.7 points per game and 4.5 rebounds. Memphis is holding its opponents to just 61.5 points per game and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference in rebound margin at 5.4. The Tigers shoot 38.5 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers won the first matchup between the two schools, 50-49, in Charles Koch Arena.
THE SERIES VS. MEMPHIS
Wichita State and Memphis have met eight times prior to Saturday's matchup. The Tigers have won the last two meetings to take a 5-3 lead in the all time series. Wichita State is 2-2 vs. Memphis in Memphis. Wichita State has won the last two meetings vs. the Tigers in Memphis by an average of 10.5 points.
LAST MEETING
In the first meeting this season on Jan. 16, Memphis held on for a slim one-point win, 50-49, in Wichita. The Shockers nearly completed a fourth quarter comeback after trailing by six entering the final 10 minutes. Wichita State was held to just 30.2 percent shooting, including 5-of-20 from beyond the arc. Wichita State also suffered its worst rebounding margin of the season, as the Tigers outrebounded the Shockers 48-35. Defensively, Wichita State forced 25 Memphis turnovers.
Mariah McCully was the lone Shocker in double figures with a team-high 13 points.
Jane Asinde just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
BASTIN'S BACK Â Â Â
Junior point guard
Seraphine Bastin returned to the line up on Feb. 6 vs. Tulsa after missing four straight games due injury. Bastin came off the bench for the first time in her career and chipped in 12 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes. With her out of the lineup Wichita State lost the rebound battle in all four games.

Mariah McCully has been pest on defense for opposing offenses through 22 games this season. McCully had her streak of 14 straight games with a steal snapped vs. UCF, but has swiped at least one in 20 of the 23 games she's played. She's had multiple in 13 of the 23. Her 43 steals easily lead the team and rank seventh in the American Athletic Conference. Her 1.85 steals per game rank sixth in the conference. During her first season at Wichita State (2019-20), McCully had a career-long 19-game streak with a steal, including a career-high seven at Tulane on Feb. 16, 2020.

Wichita State is ranked in the top 100 nationally in10 categories after the first 24 games. The Shockers rank No. 15 in offensive rebounds per game (15.5), No. 18 in rebounds per game (42.58), No. 22 in total rebounds (1,022), No. 68 in rebound margin (4.7), No. 71 in free throw percentage (74.4 percent), No. 75 in field goal percentage defense (37.5 percent), No. 76 in blocked shots (95), No. 82 in blocked shots per game (4.0), No. 86 in steals (211) and No. 92 in three-point field goal defense (28.8).

Wichita State is off to an impressive start rebounding the basketball through its first 24 games. The Shockers have outrebounded all but eight teams and currently average 42.58 rebounds a game, which ranks 18th nationally. Their 1022 total rebounds rank 22nd in the NCAA. Wichita State ranks 15th in offensive rebounds per game and 68th in rebound margin. As it stands now, Four different Shockers pull down at least 5.4 boards per game, led by
Jane Asinde at 8.7.
DYNAMIC POINT GUARD

Seraphine Bastin had her best season in a Shocker uniform in 2020-21. Bastin averaged 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals a game, while shooting 78.7 percent from the free throw line. The 5-foot-8 guard led the team in rebounding, assists, steals and double-doubles. In The American, Bastin ranked second in free throw percentage, third in assists, fourth in rebounding and fifth in assist-turnover ratio.
• She is off to another great start on the glass in 2021-22. Her 7.0 rebounds rank second on the team, and she's already had five games with 10 boards. In all but four games she's had five or more rebounds. Her season low is two.
• Bastin entered the Wichita State top 10 list for career assists on Nov. 26 vs. Alcorn State. She passed Allison Daniel who held the No. 10 spot with 308 career dimes. She has since moved into sole possession of 7th. Bastin is already in the top 10 for career assists per game at 3.8. Her 3.8 helpers rank ninth best in school history.
• The Dinant, Belgium, native has a bulldog mentality and that is evident in her rebounding. Bastin led Wichita State and ranked sixth in the American Athletic Conference in rebounding at 7.7 per game and 131 total rebounds in 2020-21. Her 131 rebounds were 15 more than the next closest Shocker, which was
Trajata Colbert with 116. Bastin has been one of the program's best rebounders since she arrived in 2018. She has 562 career rebounds, far and away the team's active leader. She has averaged 4.6 rebounds or more every season, including her career best 7.7 in 2020-21.
