Wichita State women's tennis coach
Colin Foster announced the promotion of former Shocker
Alexandra Lazarova to assistant coach.
Â
A native of Roznava, Slovakia, Lazarova was a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete during her four-year career at WSU (2017-21). As a freshman she helped the Shockers to a first-round NCAA tournament victory and a No. 32 national ranking.
Â
Lazarova served as an undergraduate assistant this past fall while finishing up her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. She minored in Sport Management and also earned certificates in Physical Education Fitness and Physical Education Weight Training.
Â
Foster said:
Â
"As is the case with many of the outstanding ladies that come through our program – I was able to watch as Alex transformed from a quiet freshman who at times lacked confidence into one of our leaders who always left everything on the court. Last semester she transitioned into an undergraduate assistant role and I'm excited that we're able to keep her on as our assistant coach as we head into our spring season."
Â
Foster's wife, Kewa, who has been with the program since 2010, will transition from assistant coach into a new role as Director of Operations.
Â
Prior to the Fall semester, another Shocker alumna,
Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva, joined the staff as graduate manager and local tennis pro
Eva Castiglioni was named Volunteer Assistant Coach.
Â
"I'm also grateful to
Brad Pittman and our administration who continue to give our program flexibility within our staff."
Colin Foster said. "This is a great group of women our players can look to and lean on as they navigate and enjoy the challenges of competition and life as elite student-athletes."
Â
Wichita State opens the spring dual season Saturday on the Wichita Country Club indoor courts with a split doubleheader against Saint Louis (2 p.m. CT) and Newman (6 p.m.).
