WICHITA, Kan - Junior
Neleigh Herring was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll Monday after helping the Shockers go 4-1 last week, including a win over No. 11 Oklahoma State.
The Chandler, Okla., native hit .500 (8-for-16) for the week with two doubles, two triples, a home run, three RBI and five runs scored. Herring opened the week by breaking out of a 1-for-21 slump with a 3-for-3 night at the plate vs. Oklahoma State. Her biggest hit came in the bottom of the sixth on a go-ahead solo home run, proving to be the game-winner.Â
In the series opener at Tulsa, Herring drove in a run behind a pair of doubles, while also scoring twice. She once again came through in the clutch in game two, lacing an RBI triple down the right field line to help Wichita State overcome a four-run deficit. She would then score the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Herring ranks second on the team with a .385 average this season to go with nine home runs, 12 doubles and 31 RBI. This is the third honor roll selection for Herring this season.
Wichita State concludes regular season play tomorrow night vs. No. 1 Oklahoma at Wilkins Stadium.
