SCENE SETTER: Wichita State baseball (27-20, 15-12 American) is scheduled to host the Memphis Tigers (16-34, 6-22 American) May 20-22 at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, to wrap up the 2021 regular season. The series is scheduled to open with a split doubleheader Thursday, May 20, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., before a single game at 6 p.m. Friday, May 21, and the series finale at noon Saturday, May 22. Senior Night will be prior to Friday's game. 

SHOCKER BASEBALL ON THE RADIO AND ESPN PLUS: KFH 97.5 FM/1240 AM will air the series against the Tigers. "The Voice of the Shockers" and Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Famer Mike Kennedy will call the action, beginning with the pregame show approximately 20 minutes prior to first pitch ... Both games of Thursday's split doubleheader will air live on ESPN Plus (WatchESPN.com) with Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame pitcher Shane Dennis on the call ... Live audio, in addition to live statistics will be available for all games at GoShockers.com/listen and ShockerStats.com.

SERIES HISTORY: The four-game series against Memphis will mark meetings 7-10 in the all-time series that dates back to WSU's first season in The American in 2018. The Shockers lead the series, 4-2. The last time the two teams met in 2019, Wichita State won two of three games at Eck Stadium, winning games one and two, 7-3 and 8-4, before dropping game three, 6-3.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS: The Memphis Tigers enter the week with an overall record of 16-34 and are 6-22 in The American after splitting a four-game series against Houston May 14-16 in Memphis, dropping games one and three, 2-1 and 7-5, and winning games two and four, 13-7 and 8-4 ... Through 50 games, Memphis is led by American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, sophomore catcher Hunter Goodman (.309 avg., 33 R, 55 H, 9 2B, 1 3B, 17 HR, 42 RBI, 26 BB, .657 SLG%, .402 OB%, 9 SB) and senior infielder Alec Trela (.220 avg., 31 R, 37 H, 8 2B, 9 HR, 24 RBI, 27 BB, .429 SLG%, .350 OB%) ... Goodman leads the conference in home runs and ranks second in slugging percentage ... As a team, Memphis is hitting .225 (eighth in American) with a 6.75 ERA (eighth in American) and .969 fielding percentage (fifth in American) ... The Tigers are under the direction of 17th season head coach Daron Schoenrock.

MILESTONE WATCH: Liam Eddy is just 11 strikeouts shy of 200 in his Wichita State career ... Jack Sigrist collected his 100th career hit Saturday, May 15, vs. South Florida.

BACK-TO-BACK TRIPLES: Couper Cornblum and Seth Stroh hit back-to-back RBI triples in the sixth inning of the Shockers' 9-3 win over South Florida in game two of a doubleheader Friday, May 14.

GOING, GOING, GONE: The Shockers hit four home runs, including three in one inning, in their 11-1, run-rule victory at UCF May 7. Jack Sigrist, Hunter Gibson and Corrigan Bartlett all homered in the eighth, marking the first time since 2008 WSU has gone deep three times in an inning. Gibson also homered earlier in the game in the top of the first.

MCDONOUGH EXCELLING: LJ McDonough is 1-0 and has yet to allow an earned run in six appearances out of the bullpen in Wichita State's 27 American Athletic Conference games. McDonough has surrendered just eight hits and two unearned runs while striking out 19 and walking only four in 12 2/3 innings in conference play.
 
SHOCKERS IN THE RPI: Wichita State enters the four-game series against Memphis ranked 64th in the latest NCAA Division I Baseball RPI. The Shockers are the third-highest ranked team in The American in RPI, trailing only ECU (10th) and Tulane (55th). Cincinnati (87th) and UCF (95th) round out the AAC teams in the top-100.

RECORD BREAKER: Corrigan Bartlett set a new Wichita State single-game record with three sacrifice flies in the Shockers' suspended game at Tulane April 17-18. The previous record was two, last set by Jordan Boyer in 2019. He leads WSU and The American and is 14th nationally with six sacrifice flies on the season.

CLOSING THE DOOR: Aaron Haase is tied for first in The American and is 22nd in the latest NCAA national statistics with eight saves in 16 appearances in 2021. Haase has a 1.14 ERA and has allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with 23 strikeouts and two walks in 23 2/3 innings. He has been named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List.

SCORING EARLY: The Shockers have outscored their opponents 43-28 in the first inning and 43-19 in the third inning this season. When WSU gets on the board in the first, they are 17-4. Overall, when scoring first in games, Wichita State is 20-7.

NOTABLE STREAKS: On-Base: Paxton Wallace has reached base in his last 11 games, while Corrigan Bartlett in on a seven-game on-base streak and Andrew Stewart has successfully reached in his last six contests ... Hitting: Bartlett is on a seven-game hitting streak.

GOING FOR THREE: Through 47 games, Wichita State leads The American and ranks 15th in the country in triples with 16. Couper Cornblum leads the team and is tied for the conference lead, and is 21st in the nation with four triples, while Jack Sigrist and Seth Stroh each have three. Ross Cadena has two, and Hunter Gibson, Garrett Kocis, Chuck Ingram and Paxton Wallace each have one triple, respectively.

TURNING TWO: The Shockers are second in The American and 45th in the country in double plays turned with 36 in 47 games.

DON'T RUN ON ROSS: Catcher Ross Cadena has thrown out 14 runners attempting to steal through 47 games in 2021, ranking second in The American. He has been named to the 2021 Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award watch list.

RIVERFRONT MAGIC: The Shockers opened Riverfront Stadium -- the new downtown Wichita ballpark and home of the Wichita Wind Surge minor league team -- in style Saturday, April 10, rolling to a 10-1 win over Houston. Paxton Wallace hit the first homer in the new stadium's history with a towering two-run shot to right in the bottom of the first, before Hunter Gibson smashed the first grand slam in stadium lore in the fifth inning. On the mound, Jace Kaminska spun the first complete game for a WSU freshman since 2009, going the full nine and allowing one earned run with a career-high seven Ks. The announced attendance of 7,509 marked the seventh-largest crowd in WSU baseball history and was the 14th-largest crowd in NCAA Division I in 2021.

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES: The Shockers have an all-time record of 850-270-2 at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, dating back to 1988.

ON DECK: The Shockers open play in the American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tuesday, May 25, at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
