SCENE SETTER: Wichita State baseball (25-18, 13-10 American) is scheduled to welcome the South Florida Bulls (20-22, 10-10 American) for a four-game American Athletic Conference series May 14-16 at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, in Wichita. The series is slated to open with a split doubleheader Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., before game three at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, and the series finale at noon Sunday, May 16.

WEEKLY HONORS: Hunter Gibson was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while
Jace Kaminska garnered Weekly Honor Roll honors for their performances on the field during the week of May 3-9. It's Gibson's first-career Player of the Week accolade and Kaminska's third weekly award honor. Gibson hit a team-best .500 with eight hits in 13 at bats, including two homers and a double, going along with a team-high eight RBI, helping the Shockers win three of four games at UCF May 7-9 in Orlando, Fla. He added a .938 slugging and .556 on-base percentage in four games as the designated hitter. Kaminska continued his stellar 2021 on the mound, improving to 6-0 after earning the victory in the Shockers' 11-1, run-rule win Friday. He scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run with six strikeouts and only one walk in six innings of work and 93 total pitches.
GOING, GOING, GONE: The Shockers hit four home runs, including three in one inning, in their 11-1, run-rule victory at UCF May 7.

Hunter Gibson and
Corrigan Bartlett all homered in the eighth, marking the first time since 2008 WSU has gone deep three times in an inning. Gibson also homered earlier in the game in the top of the first.

MCDONOUGH EXCELLING: LJ McDonough is 1-0 and has yet to allow an earned run in five appearances out of the bullpen in Wichita State's 23 American Athletic Conference games. McDonough has surrendered just five hits and two unearned runs while striking out 14 and walking only four in 9 2/3 innings in conference play.
SHOCKERS IN THE RPI: Wichita State enters the four-game series against USF ranked 53rd in the latest NCAA Division I Baseball RPI. The Shockers are the second-highest ranked team in The American in RPI, trailing only ECU (14th). Tulane (57th), Cincinnati (87th) and UCF (96th) round out the AAC teams in the top-100.
RECORD BREAKER: Corrigan Bartlett set a new Wichita State single-game record with three sacrifice flies in the Shockers' suspended game at Tulane April 17-18. The previous record was two, last set by
Jordan Boyer in 2019. He leads WSU and The American and is 10th nationally with six sacrifice flies on the season.
CLOSING THE DOOR: Aaron Haase leads The American and is 14th in the latest NCAA national statistics with eight saves in 15 appearances in 2021. Haase has a 1.25 ERA and has allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with 21 strikeouts and two walks in 21 2/3 innings. He has been named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List.
SCORING EARLY: The Shockers have outscored their opponents 35-23 in the first inning and 36-14 in the third inning this season. When WSU gets on the board in the first, they are 17-4. Overall, when scoring first in games, Wichita State is 19-7.

Paxton Wallace hit the first homer in the new stadium's history with a towering two-run shot to right in the bottom of the first, before
Hunter Gibson smashed the first grand slam in stadium lore in the fifth inning. On the mound,
Jace Kaminska spun the first complete game for a WSU freshman since 2009, going the full nine and allowing one earned run with a career-high seven Ks. The announced attendance of 7,509 marked the seventh-largest crowd in WSU baseball history and was the 14th-largest crowd in NCAA Division I in 2021.
