WICHITA—Rebekah Topham and Michael Bryan were honored for their performances at the Hayward Premiere, winning American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards, the conference announced Wednesday.
 
Topham was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week after her opening steeplechase race of the season. She finished fourth at the Hayward Premiere among an elite field.
 
The Shocker senior's time of 10:04.38 ranks seventh in the nation and leads the American Athletic Conference.
 
Bryan impressed again in the hammer throw, breaking the school record for the second consecutive week. He won the first event at Hayward Field since its renovation was completed.
 
Bryan's toss of 68.54m/224-10 is No. 7 in the country and No. 3 in the West Region. 
 
Topham and Bryan join hurdler Joseph Holthusen as the club of Shockers to earn weekly honors in 2021.
 
The Shocker track and field teams are slated to compete Saturday at the Wichita State Open inside of Cessna Stadium.
