WICHITA—Winny Koskei has dominated the American Athletic Conference cross country scene for the past three years.
In what has become routine for the cross country All-American, Koskei was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year for the third consecutive year, the conference announced Friday.
She becomes the first person in conference history to win the Runner of the Year award three times.
Cross Country Head Coach
Kirk Hunter said it was terrific news to hear.
"I'm very proud of
Winny Koskei and all of her accomplishments here at Wichita State," Hunter said. "She represents us extremely well as a person and a student athlete. I can only imagine that there are more great things for Winny in her future."
The three-time conference champion dominated in an abbreviated spring cross country season.
Koskei won the AAC cross country individual title for the third straight year, becoming the first individual in conference history to claim three straight individual titles.
Koskei also won her second straight JK Gold Classic title in January, continuing a stretch of Shocker dominance on top of the JK Gold podium.
Koskei went to her third straight NCAA Cross Country Championships, placing 125th overall.
The Shocker distance runner turns her attention to the outdoor season, where she is already in the mix nationally in the 10,000 meters. She is ranked 28th nationally in the 10,000 meters this season.
