OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Wichita State University senior right-handed pitcher
Preston Snavely has been named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
Snavely, a native of Fort Collins, Colo., is 3-1 and has a 3.35 ERA in seven appearances and starts on the mound this season. He has only allowed 14 earned runs on 32 hits with 30 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings of work going into the Shockers' four-game series at Tulane April 16-18.Â
Â
Snavely graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Wichita State in May 2020, with a 3.88 GPA. He currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA in his pursuit of a graduate degree in sport management at WSU.Â
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in May, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character, and competition.
Â
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 College World Series® in June.
