IRVING, Texas – Wichita State freshman right-handed pitcher Jace Kaminska was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and junior outfielder Hunter Gibson garnered American Weekly Honor Roll accolades for their performances on the diamond during the week of April 5-11, the conference office announced Monday, April 12. 
 
A native of Caney, Kan., Kaminska earned his first-career pitcher of the week award after throwing a complete game in the Shockers' 10-1 victory over Houston Saturday, April 10, at Riverfront Stadium in downtown Wichita.
 
It was the first complete game for a WSU pitcher since 2019 and the first time a freshman went the distance since 2009. 
 
Kaminska allowed just one earned run on six hits with a career-best seven strikeouts and only two walks on 105 total pitches as he went the full nine, earning the victory on the mound and improving to 3-0 on the season. 
 
Gibson, who hails from Oologah, Okla., secured his first-career weekly honor roll accolade after batting .500 with eight hits in 16 at bats in Wichita State's four-game, series sweep of Houston April 9-11. He scored four runs and tallied a double, homer (grand slam), eight RBI, two walks, a .750 slugging and .600 on-base percentage in four games. 
 
Gibson posted a pair of 2-for-4 showings in WSU's doubleheader sweep of the Cougars April 9. In game two, he drove in two runs and had a double.
 
Saturday, he hit the first grand slam in Riverfront Stadium history as the Shockers rolled to a 10-1 win over Houston to open the brand-new downtown stadium. Gibson's slam was a towering shot to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning. 
 
Sunday, in Wichita State's 13-2, seven-inning, run-rule win over the Cougars, Gibson went a career-best-tying 3-for-4 with an RBI. 
 
The Shockers (19-9, 7-1 American) are scheduled to travel to Tulane for a four-game American Athletic Conference series April 16-18 in New Orleans, La.
