Shockers Rout Memphis Behind Five Home Runs

MEMPHIS – Wichita State opened the weekend series with Memphis in dominating fashion, run-ruling the Tigers in five innings behind five home runs, 12-2, Friday night.

Wichita State (21-5, 4-1) crushed five home runs for the fourth time this season and recorded its eighth run-rule.

Bailey Lange (11-2) struck out four and allowed just two runs over five hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Sydney McKinney, Addison Barnard, Madison Perrigan, Neleigh Herring and Ryleigh Buck all homered in the contest, giving the Shockers 51 home runs so far this season. McKinney paced the offensive onslaught with a 3-for-4 day, two RBI and two runs scored. The sophomore shortstop has now had multiple hits in five straight games.

Perrigan finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Buck added three RBI in her 2-for-4 outing at the plate.

Perrigan opened the scoring with her ninth home run of the season on a solo shot to left field. After a scoreless second inning, the Shocker bats went back to work in the third. McKinney and Barnard hit back-to-back homers for the second straight game and an RBI double from Ryleigh Buck made it 4-0.

A leadoff walk led to a run-scoring double for the Tigers in the bottom half to cut it to 4-1. The Tigers clawed within two in the bottom of the fourth following a solo home run.

That would be as close as Memphis would get. An eight-run top of the fifth put the game away, beginning with Buck's two-run blast to start things off. A passed ball and an error led to Camryn Compton and Bailee Nickerson crossing the plate on the same play. Four straight plate appearances led to runs via an RBI single from McKinney, RBI groundout from Barnard, RBI foul-out from Perrigan and the cherry on top being a solo missile from Herring.
