Shocker Cross Country Earns Four Academic Honors

WICHITA—The Wichita State men's and women's cross country teams combined for four All-Academic awards, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday.
 
Winny Koskei and Yazmine Wright earned individual academic honors.
 
Head cross country coach Kirk Hunter said he is proud of the Koskei and Wright's continued accomplishments.
 
"They continue to prove how you can be a successful student-athlete both in their sport and in the classroom," Hunter said. "Based on all I know about these two, I would expect nothing less but excellence from each of them."
 
Koskei won her third consecutive American Athletic Conference Cross Country individual title, cementing herself as one of the conference's best ever. She also qualified for her third consecutive NCAA Championship meet. Koskei defended her crown at the JK Gold Classic as well, winning her second straight JK Gold title.
 
Koskei was stellar in the classroom, earning a 3.46 GPA in Health Science.
 
Wright brought her combination of speed and strength to the course in 2021 and ended her season with All-Conference accolades. Her fifth-place finish was her best at the conference cross country meet. Wright also ran at the JK Gold Classic where she took third place.
 
Wright also excelled in the classroom with a 3.451 GPA in Biological Sciences.
 
The men's cross country team was honored as an All-Academic squad with a 3.347 GPA.
 
The women's cross country squad also earned All-Academic honors with a 3.16 GPA.
