WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State softball and head coach
Kristi Bredbenner announced the 2021 spring schedule, highlighted by 19 home dates.
Wichita State kicks off the slate next weekend at the Maverick Classic in Arlington, Texas with games against Arkansas, Abilene Christian, Texas State and UT Arlington. The Shockers' home opener will see the Creighton Bluejays come to Wilkins Stadium for three games in two days (Feb. 27-28). The matchup with Creighton will be Wichita State's first home games since May 5, 2019 after the 2020 season was cut short.
The Shockers then head right back to Arlington for the 2nd Boerner Invitational (March 5-7) before hosting South Dakota State for a doubleheader on March 9. Tournament play concludes with Wichita State hosting a tournament for the first time since 2018, and a short trip to Stillwater for the Mizuno Classic.
Teams in the Wichita State Tournament include: Missouri State, North Texas and Omaha. The Mizuno Classic features Oklahoma State, UTSA and Kansas City.
American Athletic Conference play begins March 26 with a home series against ECU. Conference play will feature a four-game weekend series in 2021 with teams playing a doubleheader on Saturdays.
Houston and USF will also come to Wilkins Stadium for league contests, while Wichita State will travel to Memphis, UCF and Tulsa. With the departure of UConn, there are only seven schools in The American with softball programs.
Midweek matchups will see three Big 12 opponents make the trip to Wichita in Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Kansas. The season finale on May 7 is a doubleheader against Arkansas at Wilkins Stadium.
The American Athletic Conference Championship will be held at the University of Tulsa, May 13-15.
