WICHITA, Kan. -Â Wichita State welcomes Houston to Charles Koch Arena for its 2020-21 home finale on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. The matchup will also be the Shockers' annual Play 4 Kay Pink Game.

A CASE OF THE 'RONA
COVID-19 has wrecked havoc on the 2020-21 Wichita State women's basketball program. To date, the Shockers have had eight games postponed due to positive tests within the program. The Shockers are coming off a pause in all team-related activities due to a lack of players available that saw games against ECU, Memphis and USF all postponed. As of now, Wichita State's two matchups vs. SMU are the only contests that will not be made up, due to the Mustangs canceling the remainder of their season.
LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State dropped its fourth straight game following a 74-59 loss at ECU last Saturday. Wichita State committed a season-high 34 turnovers, the second most in the
Keitha Adams era, and was outscored 30-11 in the third quarter after being tied at halftime. The 30 points allowed in the third quarter were a season high for an opponent. Seven of the nine players that suited up for Wichita State had at least two turnovers.
Asia Strong scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Strong now has three games of 20 or more points this season.
DJ McCarty grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
STRONG START

Asia Strong is off to fast start in her first season at Wichita State. The South Bend, Ind., native has scored 10 or more points in 13 of the team's 14 games, including three games of 20 or more. In Wichita State's nine league games, she has scored 11 or more in every game and is averaging 15.6 points. Strong set a season high in points and rebounds vs. UNI on Dec. 6 with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Strong leads Wichita State in scoring at 15.5 points per game for the season, which ranks fifth in the American Athletic Conference. Her 45.2% shooting also ranks fifth in the league.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Houston enters the matchup at 13-5 overall and 10-4 in league play, having won five straight games. Houston is currently in third place in the league standings. The Cougars field a balanced scoring attack with seven players averaging 6.5 points per game and their leading scorer, Britney Onyeje, averages a team-high 10.6 per game. Miya Crump scores a shade over 10 points a game, and Tatyana Hill grabs a team-high 5.8 rebounds a contest. As a team, Houston leads the American Athletic Conference in three-pointers made and attempted. They rank in the top 25 nationally in three-point defense (5th), turnovers forced (13th) and steals per game (21st).
THE SERIES VS. HOUSTON
Wichita State and Houston have met eight times prior to Wednesday's matchup with the series being one-sided in favor of the Cougars. Wichita State recorded its first-ever win vs. Houston last season in the American Athletic Conference Championship, snapping a six-game losing streak. Houston is 3-0 vs. the Shockers in Wichita. Wichita State will look to split the regular season series against Houston, a feat the Shockers have yet to accomplish since joining The American.
LAST MEETING
Wichita State traveled to Houston in the conference-opener on Dec. 30 and fell to the Cougars, 79-65. Wichita State trailed by 10 after the first quarter and never recovered.
Seraphine Bastin scored a game-high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds in a losing effort. Bastin also tied a school record, going 12-for-12 at the free throw line.
Asia Strong added 13 points and seven rebounds, but committed eight turnovers. Eryka Sidney led Houston with 17 points behind a perfect shooting display, going 5-for-5 from three-point range. Wichita State finished the game 3-of-13 from beyond the arc, while Houston made 10. Both teams committed 20-plus turnovers and swiped 14 steals.

Seraphine Bastin has started the season on a mission. Bastin is averaging 10.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals a game, while shooting 81.3 percent from the free throw line. The 5-foot-8 guard leads the team in rebounding, assists, steals and double-doubles. In two games at Houston and vs. Cincinnati, Bastin racked up double-doubles of 18 points and 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She missed a triple-double vs. Cincy by two points. In The American, Bastin ranks third in assist-turnover ratio (1.85) and free throw percentage (81.3), fourth in assists (65) and assists per game (4.5) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.1).

Asia Strong claimed her fourth American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll accolade on Feb. 22. Strong scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with seven rebounds at ECU on Feb. 20. It was her third 20-point outing of the season and ninth straight game in double figures.

Seraphine Bastin and
Trajata Colbert both logged double-doubles in Wichita State's contest vs. Tulane on Feb. 3. Bastin scored a team-high 14 points to go with 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Colbert pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds to go with 11 points. It was her first double-double of the season and third career. The duo became the first Shocker teammates to record a double-double in the same game since Feb. 26, 2018 at Tulsa when Rangie Bessard and Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage accomplished the feat.
