IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wichita State men's and women's cross country teams travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Friday at the Ashton Cross Country Course.

The Shockers enter the regional meet ranked fifth in the Midwest Region and will need a top-two team finish to automatically move on to nationals. In addition to the top two teams from each of the nine regional meets, 13 additional teams and 38 individual runners will earn at-large bids to advance to the championship meet. (NCAA Championship Qualifying Criteria)

"The guys, of course, want to place higher than our fifth-place ranking," head coach Kirk Hunter said. "To do that, we'll have to have the best total team effort we've ever had through all seven guys that are racing."

Yazmine Wright is looking to follow in Winny Koskei's footsteps this Friday with hopes of earning an individual bid to the NCAA Championships.

"The only thing I really want to see out of Yazmine is for her to maintain her composure and to continue to race the way she's been racing," Hunter said. "She's already lined up against quality girls throughout the year and she's handled it well, but now there's just more of them."

Wright heads into the regional meet having won every race she has completed this season, including the American Athletic Conference Championship.

"I want her to stick to her game plan, and as long as she does that, she'll find that she will come out successful," Hunter said.

The women race Friday in the 6k at 11 a.m. with the men to follow in the 10k at noon .
