Shockers Gear Up for Final Regular Season Meet

10/12/2021 5:04:00 PM

PEORIA, Ill. – The Wichita State men's and women's cross country teams hit the road for their final regular season meet of the year at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois on Friday.

The men compete against 24 teams, including three teams that join the Shockers in the top 10 of the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional rankings. Coming off a second-place team finish at the Gans Creek Invitational in Missouri, the men look to continue to improve their depth.

"Our depth of performance at Nebraska was better than at Missouri, and I want to see that again," head coach Kirk Hunter said. "I want to see us continue with the high quality running from the top guys, but I also want to see those other guys keep stepping it up."

Last time out for the women, Yazmine Wright led the way for the Shockers with her second individual victory of the season.

"I want Yazmine to continue with what she's been doing," Hunter said. "If she can do well at this meet, it will lead her into conference, which will lead her into regionals and hopefully into NCAAs."

The Shocker women will be racing against 28 teams, including four teams in the top 15 of the Midwest Regional rankings.

Women race first at 3 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:45 p.m. at the Newman Golf Course.
