THE AMERICAN ON ESPN+
The American Athletic Conference is in its first season of a new TV deal that will see a majority of Wichita State's games televised on ESPN+. Fans can find more information and how to subscribe to ESPN+ here.

A CASE OF THE 'RONA
COVID-19 has wrecked havoc on the 2020-21 Wichita State women's basketball program. To date, the Shockers have had six games postponed due to positive tests within the program. The Shockers are coming off a pause in all team-related activities due to a lack of players available that saw games against ECU, Memphis and USF all postponed. As of now, Wichita State's two matchups vs. SMU are the only contests that will not be made up, due to the Mustangs canceling the remainder of their season.

LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State suffered its sixth straight loss after a 3-0 start with a 65-55 loss at Temple last Saturday. Wichita State went into the final period with a four-point lead, but was held to a season-low six fourth quarter points. Wichita State set season lows in free throws made (4) and attempted (6). Junior Asia Strong scored 12 of her team-high 17 points before halftime. Strong has reached the double-figure mark in four straight games and eight of the team's nine this season. Junior Trajata Colbert scored 13 points before fouling out. Junior Seraphine Bastin continues her hunt for a triple-double, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Freshman Carla Budane made her Wichita State debut, logging four points in 11 minutes.

STRONG START
Wichita State junior forward Asia Strong is off to fast start in her first season at Wichita State. The South Bend, Ind., native has scored 10 or more points in eight of the team's nine games, including two games of 20 or more. In Wichita State's four league games, she has scored 13 or more in every game and is averaging 15.5 points. Strong set a season high in points and rebounds vs. UNI on Dec. 6 with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Strong leads Wichita State in scoring at 15.4 points per game for the season, which ranks third in the American Athletic Conference. Her 45.5 percent shooting from the field places her fifth in the league.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati is 3-9 overall and 2-6 in American Athletic Conference play. The Bearcats are powered by one of the nation's top scorers in senior forward IImar'I Thomas. Thomas averages 23.9 points per game to go with 8.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Her 23.9 points a game rank 11th nationally, and she also ranks third in minutes per game (39.08), eighth in field goals made (106), 11th in free throws made (72), 14th in total points (287) and 22nd in free throw attempts (85). She leads the league in 10 different offensive categories.

THE SERIES VS. CINCINNATI
Wichita State and Cincinnati have met only five times prior to Wednesday, but the series dates all the way back to the first meeting on Dec. 9, 1983. The Shockers are still searching for their first win in the series after the Bearcats won the first matchup this season in Wichita. Wichita State is 0-1 all-time at Cincinnati, having only played there once since joining the league due to the unbalanced schedule.

LAST MEETING
Wichita State and Cincinnati met on Jan. 2 of this month in Charles Koch Arena. The Bearcats knocked off the Shockers 65-59 behind IImar'I Thomas' 24 points and 17 rebounds. Asia Strong and Mariah McCully scored a team-high tying 15 points apiece, while Carla Bremaud added 12 on four three-pointers. Seraphine Bastin came up two points shy of a triple-double with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Bastin's 10 assists were a career high and the most by a Shocker since 2010. Wichita State shot only 36.5 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc. Cincinnati managed to connect on 42.1 percent of its attempts, despite going 3-for-11 from three-point range.

SHOCKERS ADD WALK-ON
Wichita State added some roster depth over the holiday break in the addition of walk-on Mariah McKinney. McKinney is a Wichita native having played her prep basketball at nearby Wichita East High School. Most recently she completed a season at Fort Scott Community College in 2018-19. McKinney played in 27 contests for the Greyhounds and averaged 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

BASTIN NABS HONOR ROLL SPOT
Junior Seraphine Bastin picked up her first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll selection of the season following a stellar two-game stretch at Houston (Dec. 30) and vs. Cincinnati (Jan. 2). Bastin averaged 13.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals, while shooting 14-of-14 at the free throw line. The Belgium native had a pair of double-doubles, going for 18 points and 11 rebounds at Houston and finishing with a near triple-double vs. Cincinnati. Against the Bearcats she logged eight points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

BASTIN DOES IT ALL
Wichita State's point guard Seraphine Bastin has started the season on a mission. Bastin is averaging 10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.7 steals a game, while shooting 82.6 percent from the free throw line. The 5-foot-8 guard leads the team in rebounding, assists, steals and double-doubles. In two games at Houston and vs. Cincinnati, Bastin racked up double-doubles of 18 points and 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She missed a triple-double vs. Cincy by two points. In The American, Bastin ranks second in assist-turnover ratio (1.88), third in free throw percentage (82.6) and fourth in assists (45) and assists per game (5.0).
