WICHITA, Kan. – No. 48 Wichita State is slated to compete in the San Joaquin Invitational in Fresno, California, Feb. 29 and March 1 where they will be in a field that includes Fresno State, Nevada, San Francisco, Gonzaga, Lamar, Hawaii, and Pacific.Â

The Shockers first match will be Saturday against Pacific at 11 a.m. CT at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. If they win, they will go on to play either Hawaii or San Francisco in the same location at 4 p.m. CT, but if a Shocker loss were to occur, they would face the loser of the Hawaii versus San Francisco match at the Copper River Country Club at 4 p.m. CT.

Opening Serve
- This will be the second tournament that the Shockers have competed in this spring.
- WSU heads into this weekend with a 10-4 record having won five of their last six matches.
- The Shockers have met each opponent in the tournament field at least once in the program's history.Â
- Last time out, Danny Bryan's squad claimed a 4-2 victory over the UT Arlington Mustangs.

Shockers Remain in the Rankings
- Wichita State found themselves once again in the ITA team rankings this week as they came in at No. 48. Last week they were No. 47.
- Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien also found their way back into the doubles rankings coming in as No. 27. This is their first ranking as a pairing since the fall preseason poll which saw them at No. 5.

Frosa on Fire
- Senior All-American Frosa had a stellar week in both singles and doubles play on the week of Feb. 10-Feb. 17 to earn his first honor as American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The senior from Galati, Romania, who was recently ranked No. 107 in singles, went a combined 4-0 over the span of a week between singles and doubles. He picked up an upset victory alongside his teammate Murkel Dellien over No. 10 Will Davies andOliver Okonkwo of Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 16. He also never lost a set in singles over the course of the week , winning his two singles matches by a combined score of 24-10.
- This was the first Shocker to earn the honor in 2020, and the first player since Murkel Dellien, who was tabbed with the honor last season on February 26, 2019.
- Frosa was also honored as the SASO student athlete of the game on Feb. 20, as the Wichita State men's basketball team took on the USF Bulls.

Shockers Lead the American…Technically
- With a 10-4 record, Wichita State has the most wins in the American Athletic Conference, but the AAC does not sponsor conference play so there are not official conference standings.
- If there were conference standings, WSU would be in second right behind East Carolina, who is 9-2.

Hot Start
- This season, coach Bryan's squad had the best 10-match record to begin a campaign since the 2014-15 season.
- The 2014-15 Shockers went on to have a very successful 19-7 season that saw them reach the third round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

- Senior Zdenek Derkas was named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Over the span of the week he went 1-1 in doubles and 2-1 in singles play, with his biggest win of the week coming in straight sets against No. 55 Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss.

- The doubles pairing of Sam Feit and Matthew Hollingworth became the highest ranked duo in Gonzaga man's tennis history when they came in at No. 33 in the Feb. 5 ITA rankings. In the fall they reached the semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regional which was the deepest run in school history.

- On Feb. 18, Junior Carlos Paton Canal was named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Over those seven days, Paton Canal posted a perfected 5-0 record in the team's three matches.

- Andre Ilgan earned his third career and second Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week award in 2020 on Feb. 26. Ilgan toppled No. 43 Jack Davis of Washington in three sets to claim his first ever victory over a ranked opponent.
