HEAD COACH GREGG MARSHALL ON ...

... Opening Statement:

"Okay, that a nail biter obviously. They made a wonderful run. We were a little sloppy. They cut a nine point lead even ended up tying it up and it was a great game down the stretch. They're a tough team and very well coached and that's why they go to buildings like Memphis and our place and Houston and play so well but you know we did what we needed to do in the second half especially. We held them to 30% and 14% from three and we were much better defensively. And 55 points total."

... the Pink Game auction:
"First of all, it is on eBay so go to eBay. Go to our website you'll be directed to it. GoShockers.com. The jerseys are all for sale, the tie and the shoes that I wore in the suits and sneakers game about a month ago for cancer. All that's for sale and I saw some numbers already that were kind of stunning. I think it runs until March 1st where you can bid on the game uniforms that were worn. We'll make sure to clean them. We want to make as much money as we can now to send on to the American Cancer Society to fight breast cancer and all other cancers."

... Jaime Echenique's performance:
"He wasn't making his shots. He should have had some and-ones. He should have had some finishes. But he did make his free throws. So once we got in the bonus, our emphasis was to run some sets and some motion to get him the ball. We executed some sets very, very well, in the, in the crunch time to get him the ball really deep. So all they could do is balance."

... Jaime Ecehnique's performance in conference play:
"I mean he's really been a good player and a force. And what doesn't show up on the stat sheet is how many times he protects and helps the guards by protecting the rim on those middle ball screens. He's always right in there."

... the Shockers' upcoming stretch:
"Oh, yeah, well, we're in it now. I mean, it's not going to get any easier. In fact, it's going to even get tougher on the road. The mark of a successful basketball season is usually 20 wins and to get to 20 wins with five left with 10 underclassmen is an accomplishment. So we're going to enjoy this one and worry about Cincinnati tonight. It's an early start on Sunday we'll have to play really well to win there. We know that but anything's possible. I know that last night was crazy in this league and we just have to go and take care of ourselves. All we can control is us."

... different players stepping up at different moments:
Well that's what this program is built on. It's not about individuals it's about the team. We had some beautiful passing down the stretch to build the lead back up to nine or 10 points. I thought we were fairly unselfish but when we lost the lead we were sloppy. We missed wide open guys. We took shots when there was a probably a slightly better shot with an extra pass. We turned the ball over a couple times. We missed a couple of defensive assignments and they were able to tie it. You have got to give South Florida credit too. They show up every night no matter who they're playing.

SENIOR CENTER JAIME ECHENIQUE ON ...

... his passion in the final home games in his career:
"I just want to play. I just want to enjoy this as much as I can so I was just having fun out there with my guys."

... his post-up game:
"I've been the old school post guy, the guy who can stay in through the paint, but also, I've been working on my game to kind of go outside and maybe shoot threes or drive to the paint."

... players he models himself after:
"I've been hearing all my life that I kind of look like Tim Duncan and also today I look up to LaMarcus Aldridge. I love the way they move and how they play. The system that they play in is very similar to the system we use so those are the players that I always look at."

FRESHMAN GUARD TYSON ETIENNE ON ...

... teammate Jaime Echenique:
"I'm new to college basketball and I never played with a big man like Jaime (Echenique). Some of the moves that you see him make in a game and some of the moves you may see him making in practice make you go 'wow, that's really good.' He's a great player. Everybody says the traditional five man is going away, but you know, Jamie's gonna find his niche because he wants to get better all the time."

... the final stretch of the season:
"We are in the homestretch. It's important for us to get these W's and looking forward to conference tournament and God willing the NCAA tournament. We are going into a tough environment. Cincinnati is gonna be a tough environment for us to play in and it's a game that we need to win. It is going to show our character and our resiliency."

SOPHOMORE GUARD JAMARIUS BURTON:

... Jaime Echenique's improvement:
"He's worked on his game over the offseason. I mean, last year, we didn't see him hit left hand shot hooks, but he's brought that out in the last five games, and he's been dominant being able to score on both shoulders. And he's always been great helping us on the defensive end. So when you put both of those two things together, it's just a luxury to have."

... the team's defense throughout the game:
"I don't think anything changed. We just all knew that. The first half didn't mean anything. We had another 20 minutes that we had to play in order to get the win. And there was a defensive gameplan. It was a low scoring game for us so we just needed to stop them and we did that down the stretch."

... the team's balance with Jaime Echenique in the post:
"Coach always says when you see his numbers, throw it in. And today he did a great job of getting the ball and when he felt the double team, kicking it out. So when you just have a guy to demand a double team like that, and just passing the ball and sharing it, it makes the defense just guess."

... the team's final stretch of games:
"I think the last five games is preparing us for what we should look forward to down the stretch in the conference tournament and maybe hopefully a postseason tournament. Being able to execute down the stretch is going to help us so we're grateful for them. We're grateful for the wins and losses and we're just going to take what we learned and apply it later."
