WICHITA, KAN./ CHARLES KOCH ARENA (100)
ISAAC BROWN, DEXTER DENNIS, ALTERIQUE GILBERT, CLARENCE JACKSON

 Head Coach ISAAC BROWN on…

… Opening Statement:
"(Mizzou) is an older basketball team that's really good defensively. They took us out of a lot of our stuff that we were running offensively. They defended well, and we didn't shoot the ball very well."

"I think guys (are still) learning to play together... We didn't have great spacing. Again, I give Mizzou all the credit. They're really good defensively. They're long, athletic. They're older. We didn't shoot the ball well from the field. We shot 33 percent from the field. It's not good enough. We shot 28 percent from the three-point line. That's not good enough. We shot (61) percent from the free throw line. You've got to be able to make shots in order to win basketball games at a high level and we just didn't shoot it well tonight. But again, I give Mizzou all the credit. Really good basketball team. We can learn a lot from this game. We're gonna go back, we're going to clean up our mistakes, and we're gonna come out and play better the next game"

… Missouri's hot start to the game:
"I think it was just, you know, it was an older basketball team. They took us out of a lot of stuff that we were running early, and we couldn't make shots early on."

… only playing with eight scholarship players again:
"I think the biggest thing is us being organized, because we've got so many guys playing different positions, and they're not playing in positions they normally played in practice two and three weeks ago. So, I would just say that's the biggest thing, our depth. At the end of a game like that. I just feel like we just ran out of gas right there at the end."

… guarding against Missouri's transition offense:
"That was one of our keys going into the game -- transition defense. So the plan was, after we score, try to jump in our 2-2-1 pressure and get back to our zone defense. We weren't able to get back. We weren't able to get back in man. Those guys pushed it hard in transition, and that was one of the biggest adjustments to the game. Our transition defense wasn't very good."

… Clarence Jackson's effort and impact:
"I'm so impressed with his energy off the bench. This is just this guy's second (Division I) game, and tonight, he had 14 and eight off the bench. He's playing hard. He had four offensive rebounds, and he's gonna get better and better once he learns our system. Right now, he's just playing harder than everybody else. He plays hard and he can guard one through four. We just got to make sure he learns the system and he'll be good for us in the end."

Junior Guard DEXTER DENNIS on…

… the slow start to the game:
"I think it's very frustrating. I think no team wants to start being down double-digits in a matter of minutes. So, it just makes the game a lot harder, because you're trying to fight back for so long. So I think it was a nightmare for sure."

… going forward:
"I think we can be really good. We just have to get our chemistry down. It's our second game, playing with a lot of new guys. Some guys are still out. We're getting some guys back in pieces. Once we get our whole team back in, we get some game experience, and a lot more practice experience, I think we'll be that much better."

Sophomore Forward CLARENCE JACKSON on…

… what the team can learn from this loss:
"Knowing that you have to really pay attention to scouting, paying attention to everything the coach is saying in detail, and making sure to give 100 percent effort each and every possession. We can't take plays off, because one play can hurt you in the end."

Redshirt Senior ALTERIQUE GILBERT on…

… on the team's response after trailing early:
"You know, that was our first real punch. I would say, in a way we responded. We'll take it definitely. We just live in and learn from each experience, each practice and just build on what we already have."

… transition defense:
"That was an emphasis coming into the game; translation defense. We normally like to push it. I think they scored about 20 points in transition and that goes to tell the story there. So, we can correct a few things on the defensive end and a few things on the offensive and make some strides going forward. I think we'll be fine."
