Mark Grogan played baseball at Wichita State from 1982-85 and started as a freshman in the 1982 College World Series title game. An infielder, he earned spots on All-NCAA regional teams in 1983 and 1985.
His book is "I Owe It all to Baseball" which includes a collection of his poetry, in addition to his story of growing up as the youngest of nine in a Catholic family, lots of baseball and lots of Shocker stories.
Grogan learned how to handle disappointment when the Minnesota baseball coach declined to recruit him. That rejection started him on a journey to Wichita State. He describes teasing from Charlie O'Brien at his first practice, the infamous Texas doubleheader in 1982, the rivalry with Oklahoma State and the talents of Shockers Russ Morman and Kevin Penner. Grogan's path also connected him with Turner Gill, Joe Girardi and other notable athletes.
Grogan, who lives and works in Kansas City, remains involved with Shocker baseball alumni and Wichita's League 42.
