About The Shockers
- The Shockers are coming off a strong 2019 season where they went 16-10 and defeated three ranked opponents (No. 28 Dartmouth, No. 43 Drake, and No. 50 Memphis).
- All-Americans
Marius Frosa and
Murkel Dellien made history as they advanced to the Elite 8 at the NCAA Doubles Championships. It was enough to get them ranked No. 5 in the preseason ITA doubles rankings which is the highest ranking for a doubles pair in school history since 1983 when Roberto Saad and Paul Smith were ranked No. 2.
-
Danny Bryan is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Wichita State men's tennis team. Over his first three seasons with the Shockers he has compiled a 43-33 record, defeating five ranked opponents.
- WSU has a tough campaign ahead of them in 2020 that could tremendously boost their postseason resume. They are slated to face ten different opponents who finished last season in the ITA rankings. One of these matches will be played right here in Wichita as USF, who finished last season ranked No. 34, rolls into town on March 29th.
- The Shockers will have plenty of new faces this season as they added four freshmen and a senior transfer in the fall, and recently signed two additional freshman to the roster before beginning the spring season.
Scouting the Pioneers
- The Pioneers are coming off of a 13-9 season that saw them win the Summit League championship and earn a bid to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in six years.
- They were selected to finish first in the Summit League preseason poll with 35 points and five first-place votes.
- Junior Matt Summers highlights a group of seven returners from last year's squad. The Maidstone, U.K. native went 12-8 in singles and 13-5 in doubles last year.
- Matt Summers and his junior partner James Davis were recently ranked No. 35 in the country in the final fall ITA doubles rankings after they defeated the No. 4 ranked tandem at the ITA National Fall Championships.
- Denver welcomes three newcomers to the roster for 2020.
