WICHITA — Ben Flowers and
Winny Koskei were both named American Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the Wichita State men's and women's cross country teams.
Flowers and Koskei claimed individual titles at the JK Gold Classic on Saturday. Flowers won the men's 6K with a time of 18:38.2, and Koskei claimed the women's crown in the 4K race with a time of 13:48.5.
Koskei is a returning All-American and is no stranger to conference recognition. She was named the AAC Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2018. Koskei was also recognized as conference athlete of the week on Sept. 25 for her performance at the 2018 Chile Pepper Invitational.
It's Flowers' first conference recognition of his career. He is the first Shocker to be recognized as AAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week since Joe Harter won the award on Sept. 5, 2017. Harter also won for his efforts at the JK Gold Classic.
The Shockers return to action Sept. 27 with the Emporia State Invitational. Wichita State will also run Sept. 28 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational where it faces off against nationally ranked teams.
