Women's Tennis Earns ITA Community Service Award

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team was awarded the ITA Community Service Award for the Central Region, it was announced Saturday by the ITA.
 
Through the Pando Initiative, the Shockers team up with at-risk elementary students at Cloud Elementary in Wichita, where the visit and mentor students twice a month. Along with mentoring at Cloud Elementary the Shockers were heavily involved in the community – including meal preparation at the Ronald McDonald house, volunteer work at Lights of Love at Bradley Fair, setup at Illuminations at Botanica and volunteer work at 'Girls on the Run' 5K.
 
Over the course of the year, the Shockers completed a total of 117.5 hours of community service during the year.
 
"Our players continue to embrace community service opportunities, specifically their biweekly mentoring time at Cloud Elementary. These players from around the world enjoy becoming a true part of the Wichita community during their time here, and community services are a big part of that", said 10th year head coach Colin Foster.
