Koskei, Helker Record Shocker All-Time Top-10 Marks

DES MOINES, Iowa – Shocker distance runners Winny Koskei and Jed Helker recorded Wichita State all-time top-10 marks at the 110th Drake Relays, Thursday night at Drake Stadium.
 
Wichita State entered eight Shockers in four races in its first day of action at the 110th Drake Relays, seven of those Shockers recorded personal best. Winny Koskei and Jed Helker highlighted the night with Shocker all-time top-10 marks.
 
Helker has been on a tear over the past few weeks and continued his hot streak winning the unseeded 1500m with a time of 3:47.51. Helker cracked the all-time top-10 list passing Martin Alksnis for the eight fastest in school history.
 
The Edmond, Okla., native has now won two of his past three individual races, including a first place finish on April 12 in the K.T. Woodman Classic 1500m (3:50.62) and second place finish last weekend at the 92nd Kansas Relays 800m (1:54.07).
 
Teammates Nathan Wickoren and Ben Flowers each recorded personal best in the race as well, Wickoren placed sixth overall in 3:51.58 and Flowers 15th in 3:55.32. Reno Law finished 17th with a time of 3:57.77.
 
For the second consecutive week, Koskei set a personal best in the 1500m. This time the redshirt sophomore cracked the all-time top-10 list with the eight fastest time in 4:29.30, she placed second overall in a race of 27 athletes.
 
Fellow Shocker Halle Johnson placed ninth in the race clocking in at 4:33.11, a personal best for the true freshman.
 
Wichita native, Ethan Kossover continues to impress in the 3000m steeplechase. The sophomore bettered his Shocker season leading time by 12-seconds finishing in 9:06.73, the third fastest in the American Athletic Conference. Kossover finished ninth overall in a race of 19 competitors.
 
Rita Schnacker finished the night strong for the Shockers running a personal bet 17:29.10 in the women's 5000m unseeded race, Schnacker finished 11th overall in a race that featured 26 runners.
 
UP NEXT
Wichita State will continue the Drake Relays Friday, April 25 with Rebekah Topham and Yazmine Wright in the women's seeded 1500m at 6:37 p.m., followed by Zack Penrod in the men's seeded 1500m at 6:43 p.m.
