        SCENE SETTER: After opening their 2019 home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Creighton March 1 at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, the Wichita State University baseball team (5-5) will head back out on the road for four games. WSU will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a 4 p.m. midweek tilt at Oklahoma State (6-4) Wednesday, March 6, before heading to West Texas for a three-game series against 10th-ranked Texas Tech (6-3) March 8-10 in Lubbock.  Â

           COACHING LEGENDS TO PRESENT LINEUPS AT OKLAHOMA STATE GAME: Hall of Fame coaches Gary Ward and Gene Stephenson will present the starting lineups prior to Wednesday's game at Oklahoma State as part of the celebration of the final season of Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Both Ward and Stephenson are members of the College Baseball Hall of Fame and left their marks as the winningest coaches in Oklahoma State and Wichita State history, with each taking over head coaching duties at the respective programs in 1978.

           SERIES RECORDS: Oklahoma State - Wednesday's showdown at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater will mark the 96th meeting in the all-time series that dates all the way back to 1914. Oklahoma State leads the series, 58-37. Last season, the Shockers swept a pair of games against the Cowboys, winning in Wichita, 7-5, before claiming victory in Stillwater, 10-7 ...            SIXTH INNING SUCCESS: The Wichita State baseball and softball teams really enjoyed the sixth inning last weekend, plating a combined 22 runs in the frame in five combined games. Shocker baseball plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in both games against Creighton March 1, while Shocker softball scored 14 runs in the sixth at the Red and White Showcase in Houston, Texas March 2-3. Wichita State baseball has scored nine runs in the sixth inning in its last three games.

           RITTER ROLLING: Luke Ritter has continued his hot start at the plate through 10 games. The Overland Park, Kan., native is hitting a team-best .444 with 16 hits in 36 at bats and has two doubles, a triple, and two homers, going along with nine RBI, a .722 slugging percentage and .592 on-base percentage. He has reached base safely in 22 consecutive contests dating back to last season. Entering the week, Ritter ranks second in The American in hitting.

           HOT START: Senior infielder Jordan Boyer is off to the best start of his career at the plate. The Oklahoma City native is hitting .382 with 13 hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple, in 10 games and 34 at bats, going along with five RBI and five walks.

           CAREER GAME: Sophomore outfielder Hunter Gibson went a career-best 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, a double and run scored in Wichita State's 7-5 win over Creighton in game one of a doubleheader March 1.

           O'BRIEN ON FIRE: Senior first baseman Mason O'Brien is hitting .344 with 11 hits in 32 at bats, including a team-high four doubles and a homer. The Owasso, Okla., native has driven in six runs in 10 games.

           MILESTONE WATCH: Senior right-hander Clayton McGinness is just eight strikeouts away from 100 career Ks ... Luke Ritter is 15 RBI shy of 100 for his career ... Jordan Boyer recently eclipsed 100 career hits. He sits at 109 going into Wednesday.

           CARVER CARVING UP OPPONENTS: Freshman left-hander Cal Carver has given up just one earned run in four appearances out of the bullpen. The San Antonio, Texas, native has only given up eight hits in nine innings of work, and is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA.

           EDDY STIFLING OPPOSING BATS: Right-hander Liam Eddy only has three strikeouts in three appearances and one start on the mound this season, but has a starter-best 1.65 ERA and 2-1 record, and has only allowed three earned runs on 13 hits so far in 2019.

           NEW FACES: The Shockers have 21 newcomers to the program in 2019, including 19 freshmen and two junior college transfers. The freshmen on the active roster include Aaron Haase (RHP/UT), Calvin Marley (RHP/OF), Miller Pleimann (RHP), Connery Peters (RHP), Adam Stephenson (OF/LHP), Carson Cox (OF), David VanVooren (OF), Seth Morrow (OF), Ryan Koval (OF), Cal Carver (LHP), Brady Slavens (INF), Cooper Elliot (INF), Jack Sigrist (INF), Josh Killeen (C) and Jake Plastiak (3B). WSU's two junior college transfers are sophomore Tristan McCraw (RHP) and junior Mitchell Walters (RHP).            PRESEASON HONORS: Senior infielder Luke Ritter was voted to the American Athletic Conference's preseason all-conference team. He is also ranked 31st on the D1 Baseball's list of 2019 Top Senior Prospects and 15th on the organization's preseason second base power rankings list. Fellow senior, right-hander Clayton McGinness, is ranked 65th on the D1 Baseball Top Senior Prospects list. Â

           THE COACH: Todd Butler is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Wichita State University baseball team. He came to WSU in June 2013 after spending the previous eight seasons as the hitting instructor, outfield coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Arkansas. During Butler's 26-year tenure as a NCAA Division I assistant or head coach, he has guided his teams to five College World Series appearances and four NCAA super regionals. In addition, his teams have been ranked No. 1 five times in his career. He has coached a combined 35 All-Americans and Freshman All-Americans, 167 players drafted in the MLB Draft and 45 Major League players. In his tenure at WSU, Butler has coached 26 student-athletes who were drafted, and five players who combined for 10 All-American and Freshman All-American honors. He played his college ball at McNeese State (1985-86) and Oklahoma (1987-88). A team captain for the Sooners in 1988, Butler still holds the OU single-season record for stolen bases with 46 steals in 1988, including 26 consecutive successful stolen base attempts. Butler was a third-team All-American in 1988 and also earned All-Big Eight Conference honors and all-region honors. He played on two NCAA Tournament teams for the Sooners for legendary coach Enos Semore. Butler's coaching career began as a student-assistant coach at McNeese State, where he earned his bachelor's degree in liberal studies in 1991. He was born in Alexandria, La., and is married to the former Melissa Borrel. The couple has two daughters, Caitlyn and Kendyll.
