The Roundhouse podcast continues its men's basketball flashback series with
a look at Wichita State's 2016 NCAA Tournament win over No. 17 Arizona in Providence, R.I.
Mike Kennedy, Bob Hull and
Paul Suellentrop discuss the 65-55 win that advanced the Shockers to the round of 32.
Wichita State guards Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker set the tone for a dominating defensive display. The Shockers forced 19 turnovers and held the Wildcats to 20-of-48 shooting.
The game highlighted issues with NCAA seeding and played a part in the moves that resulted in a diminishing of the RPI's role in the selection process. Wichita State's challenging travel schedule from the First Four in Dayton, where it defeated Vanderbilt, provided another element to the backdrop. The discussion also touches on an intriguing "What if?" regarding
Landry Shamet and his season-ending injury.
The Roundhouse podcast will look at games from the past over the next month.
Next week: Wichita State 71, Illinois State 51 – MVC Tournament, March 5, 2017 in St. Louis, Mo.
