GREGG MARSHALL …

Opening Statement:
"We had our scrimmage over the weekend, and I'll be able to show them today before practice some of the problems we had against Nebraska. We'll have a very thorough video session. Then we'll practice and prepare for our exhibition with Northeastern State tomorrow. They're coached by Mark Downey, and he was a graduate assistant at Marshall when I was an assistant coach there back in the '90s. I've known him for a long time. He's a super guy. He's a good coach and he thinks he has a good team. He likes his team. We did have some bad news over the weekend. Jaime Echenique has fractured his left hand. He will be out for four weeks minimum. No surgery is needed from the doctor's follow up today. He will not be in uniform."

... on how the young players played during the scrimmage:
"Grant (Sherfield) started because Jamrius Burton was out all of last week. Jamarius had four wisdom teeth pulled plus another tooth pulled. He had five teeth pulled a week before a scrimmage. That's just bad timing for him. I understand. I've had my wisdom teeth out too, and it's a tough surgery. (Grant) played a lot. Tyson Etienne played a lot. Deantoni Gordon played a lot. Josaphat Bilau played a little less than Deantoni."

… on what he wants to see out of the younger players in Tuesday's exhibition vs. Northeastern State:
"For me, it's about defending, rebounding and playing hard. If they couldn't put the ball in the basket, or make an open shot, or drive the lane or dunk on a drop step, they wouldn't be here. (I want to see them) play hard, play smart, and defending and rebounding every time down the court. I've told them that all along. I don't want to see them take bad shots. "

… on Trey Wade compared to Markis McDuffie:
"They play the similar positions. They play a 4-3 or a 3-4. (Trey Wade)'s not quite as tall as Markis. He doesn't have the same complete offensive package that Markis had in terms of being able to drive it and in terms of shooting the 3. (Trey Wade) can make a 3. He's a good 3-point shooter. Trey's a better rebounder and more physical. They're different, but similar in some ways."

… on what makes Trey Wade a good rebounder:
"He's strong. He's developed his body. He's older, I think he's 21. He goes and gets it with two hands. I think he's a good rebounder, and I think he could be a phenomenal rebounder, I really do. He's quick and explosive off two feet. He's got good hands."

… on Trey Wade's defensive abilities:
"He can move his feet and get down in a stance. He's long. He's working on it and has been coached before. That's why I say Trey does a lot of things well. Is he going to score 18 points per game like Markis did? No, I don't think so, but Trey does a lot of things well. He does well at just about anything on the floor. He brings very few limitations. He can pass it, run the floor a little bit. He can defend in the post and on the perimeter. He's a good athlete. I'm glad we got him."

… on if Trey Wade could help play the five spot:
"No, we've got enough guys there. We probably had one too many, and now we have one too few as of today. It's a long season. The next guy that would slide over to that spot would be Josaphat Bilau."
