WICHITA, Kan. – September is National Literacy Month and to celebrate, Storytime Village is hosting its annual Kansas Children's Literacy Conference & Festival. The kick off to the festival was Hoops 4 Literacy, a literacy inspired basketball game for third-grade students from all across Wichita on Sept. 6 at Charles Koch Arena. More than 1,300 students attended the event.

Hoops 4 Literacy is a fun and engaging basketball game to promote literacy, featuring the Wichita Police Department vs. the Sheriff's Department along with their special celebrity friends. The celebrity guests included local community leaders, USD 259 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alicia Thompson, along with former Harlem Globetrotters as well as former WSU and NBA basketball players, Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson and Aubrey Sherrod as coaches. All students received a new book to help build their home libraries.

Storytime Village partnered with Wichita State University Athletics, Wichita State University Diversity & Inclusion, Westar Energy, Fugate Enterprises, and the Rotary Club of Wichita to host this event.
