WICHITA, Kan. – Eight Shockers will be competing in uniform Saturday morning at the 29th Annual Missouri Southern Stampede on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Mo.

The Shocker women are set to compete in the university/open 5K at 8:30 a.m., while the men will compete in the university/open 8K at 9:45 a.m.

Seven Shocker women are entered in the 5K race that will feature three other Division I teams, including nationally ranked No. 8 Arkansas, Missouri State and American Athletic Conference foe Tulsa. The Shockers moved up two spots in the most recent USTFCCCA Midwest regional rankings to No. 13, while the Tulsa women dropped three spots to No. 12.

The majority of the women's team will take the week off in preparation for the Chile Pepper in Fayetteville, Ark. Those competing include, redshirt senior Tangy Wiseman, sophomores Emma Stamm and Hope Saunders, and freshmen Camryn Slatten, Amber Reed, Halle Johnson and Destini Eskridge. Johnson and Eskridge make their Shocker debut after competing unattached at the J.K. Gold Classic.

Ethan Kossover is the lone Shocker competing in uniform on the men's team. The Wichita native will be making his 2018 Shocker debut after competing unattached at the J.K. Gold Classic. The sophomore finished the 6K course in 19th place with a time of 19:56.5.

The Tulsa men's team enters the competition in full strength with a total of 15 student-athletes, including all-conference Scott Beattie. As a sophomore Beattie finished in fifth place at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships. The Golden Hurricanes currently rank No. 6 in the USTFCCCA Midwest region, while the Shockers sit at No. 14.

Last year at this race the Shockers were well represented, the men won the race finishing three in the top-10. The women's team suffered a fourth a place, but included a third place finisher in Winny Koskei.
