Corley, True Earn Most Outstanding Awards

WICHITA, Kan. – American Athletic Conference Champions Austin Corley and Aaron True have been awarded the Most Outstanding Performance for track and field.
 
The award is presented to student-athletes who recorded the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA performance list at The American Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Austin Corley won the men's 400m hurdle American Athletic Conference Championship with a time of 50.07, breaking the American Athletic Conference meet record and beating two-time defending champion Amere Lattin of Houston. Corley entered the weekend ranked No. 38 in the nation, after setting a personal best in the finals he moved up to No. 9.
 
The Adrian, Mo., native is a two-time conference champion (MVC-2017, AAC-2018) and his time of 50.07 ranks No. 2 on the all-time list in Shocker history.
 
Aaron True won the men's javelin American Athletic Conference Championship with a throw of 77.49m/254-3, breaking the American Athletic Conference meet record and defeating two former American champions, Memphis' Micael Criticos (2016) and 2017 champion Seth Zuidema of UConn. Not only did True break the conference record, the junior set a personal best and broke the school record previously held by teammate Damien Odle (73.36m/240-8).
 
A Leroy, Kan., native is a two-time conference champion (MVC-2017, AAC-2018). His throw of 77.49m currently ranks No. 5 in the nation and is the farthest throw in the 2018 season by an American-born athlete.
 
Both athletes qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, Calif., on May 24-26. Corley and True will need to finish in the top-12 in order to advance to the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
