Kaden Griffin won three events in day one of the decathlon to lead the multi-event competition with a total of 3,826 points.
The Wichita native placed in the top three in all five events including first in the 100m (10.95), long jump (7.12m/23-4.5) and 400m (49.42), third in the shot put (11.89m/39-0.25) and high jump (1.85m/6-0.75) to take a commanding lead of the decathlon after day one. Griffin finished the day with 3,826 points, 121 points ahead of second place competitor Tyler Grob (unattached).
Ben Johnson finished day one in third place with 3,393 points.
Colin Reichenberger finished the day with two personal best including, high jump (1.82m/5-11.50) and 400m (53.09). He finished the day in sixth with a total of 3,236 points.
Lucas Shaffer recorded three personal best including, 100m (11.79), long jump (6.16m/20-2.50) and 400m (52.21). He also finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.88m/6-2, after day one his total score of 3,227 is seventh best.
Carlea Miles finished day one of the heptathlon in fifth with a total of 2,618 points, including two top three finishes in the 100m hurdles (15.17) and shot put (11.83m/38-9.75).
Competing unattached,
Maria Romero finished the day in fourth place with a total of 2,640 points.
