WICHITA, Kan. - - Wichita State (2-5) travels to Tulsa for 'Havoc in the Heartland' with the Golden Hurricane tonight at 6 p.m., at the Case Tennis Center.

Wichita State is 2-5 to start the 2018 season under second-year head coach

'HAVOC IN THE HEARTLAND'
The University of Tulsa and Wichita State University have announced the creation of a rivalry series competition that will span 13 varsity sports.
Points will be awarded for head-to-head regular-season victories in volleyball, basketball and softball or a higher finish at conference championships in cross country, tennis, track & field and women's golf. A trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at the end of each academic year.
With 66 points being awarded, the official tiebreaker for the rivalry series will be the annual Graduation Success Rate, which is announced by the NCAA each year. (
Tulsa holds a 15-12 advantage in the point system. WSU has six points from Volleyball, six points from Men's Basketball. Tulsa has 12 points from men's and women's cross country and three points from women's basketball.)
A Most Outstanding Player award will also be announced following each regular-season matchup in volleyball and men's and women's basketball and at the conclusion of the three-game softball series.

WE MEET AGAIN
The Shockers and Golden Hurricane will meet on the court for the 37
th time in school history. Besides former Missouri Valley opponents Drake (16-27), Illinois State (30-10), and Southern Illinois (36-9), the Tulsa-WSU Series is tied for the largest with 36 combined matches (tied with Oklahoma State (13-23). The Shockers hold a 20-16 lead over the Golden Hurricane, with the two last meeting a season ago at Tulsa. Tulsa earned a 4-3 win over Wichita State at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
ON TULSA
The Golden Hurricane are off to a 6-7 start to the 2018 season. Tulsa has knocked off Bryant (4-2), USF (5-2), Yale (4-3), Arkansas Pine-Bluff twice (4-0, 5-0) and Oral Roberts. Four of their seven losses have been against ranked teams. (No. 19 Cal, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 20 Tulane, No. 19 Oklahoma).
The Golden Hurricane are led by Joshua Goodger, who ranks No. 66 in ITA singles rankings and had a 7-3 record, in both first and second flights. The freshman from England has a top-25 victory to his name, knocking off No. 21 Constantin Schmitz in straight sets. Goodger and Kilani have rotated between the two flights, where the latter has compiled a 7-3 dual record in both flights. Kilani too is ranked in the ITA singles rankings, coming in a No. 108.

Tulsa went 10-17 (2-2 in AAC) a season ago, losing to No. 31 UCF in the American Athletic Conference Championship in Orlando (4-2). Vince Westbrook, in his 27th season at Tulsa, leads the charge for the Golden Hurricane and has recorded more than 400 wins in his tenure as head coach.
LAST TIME OUT
The Shockers hosted Middle Tennessee (9-2) and UMKC (2-5) Feb. 17-18 for their home opener at Genesis Health Club. WSU fell to MTSU (5-2) and swept UMKC (7-0).

Miroslav Herzan recorded singles wins for the Shockers against the Blue Raiders, in the third and fourth flights. The Shockers dominated UMKC on Sunday, with a win in every match to push their record to 2-5.

Senior
Miroslav Herzan is off to a hot start in dual season. Herzan begins the season 6-1 in singles action. His lone loss came by way of Pedro Alonso of Arkansas. He's competed in the sixth, fifth and fourth flight.

NEW FACE ON THE COURT
Freshman
Andrea Trapani joined the Shockers in January, and looks to record his first victory in a Shocker uniform after an 0-5 start to the spring season. Trapani hails from Palermo, Italy and had a 13.22 Universal Tennis Rating coming to Wichita State. He ranked as high as #232 in ITF Junior World Rankings, with over 30 combined singles and doubles wins.

FALL BALL
Frosa, from Romania, led the Shockers in the fall season. Frosa went 8-4 in the fall in singles action, including a run to the main draw of the ITA All-Americans, knocking off No. 83 Felix Corwin of Minnesota along the way. The junior was one win away from making the final four of the ITA Central Regional. Inoue, who ranked No. 58 in Fall Rankings, went 10-4 in singles competing in three Futures events. He advanced to the main draw in two of the three events. In doubles, junior
Andrea Caligiana and Herzan went 5-2, including a semifinal berth at the ITA Central Regional. Stoica and Frosa went 3-1, including an upset over No. 25 Hammond/Cash of Oklahoma State.

Wichita State travels to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Pacific Invite, Mar. 2-4. The Shockers knocked off No. 39 Cal Poly on there way to a Pacific Invite Championship last season in Stockton, Calif.
